Does smoking cause hair loss and grey hair? What the evidence shows

What quitting can do

Quitting won't reverse grey hairs that have already come in, since pigment loss in individual follicles tends to be permanent. But improved blood flow to the scalp after quitting can support healthier hair growth going forward, and reducing oxidative stress removes one of the ongoing pressures on follicles. As with skin, the honest framing is that stopping limits further damage rather than undoing what's already happened โ€” which is still a meaningful reason to quit.
